My article discusses the dissemination of the haiku in Hispanic American Literature from Modernism to the present day. It reviews, therefore, the various forms of imitation, recreation, modification, hybridisation and in some cases trivialisation of this Japanese literary form which, from Mexico to Argentina, was rarely understood in its philosophical essence of poetic expression of zen thought.
