Les locutions “d’autant (plus/moins) que”, “(pour) autant que”, “pour autant”. Analyse sémantico-syntaxique et traduction en italien

The adverb of quantity autant is used in the formation of several idioms belonging to different grammatical categories. Our study focuses on three idioms containing autant: the idiom with a causal value autant... que and its four variants; the idiom with a concessive value (pour) autant que; the adverbial idiom pour autant, which, depending on the context, can function either as a causal or as an adversative connective. Based on the most recent studies in French linguistics and on the data collected in a parallel bilingual French-Italian corpus of 20th and 21st century prose texts (novels, plays, essays in the humanities), we will present the semantic-syntactic properties of these three French idioms and the main solutions to translate them into Italian.
