Maria Iole SPALLA: Laurea in Geological Sciences (University of Torino 1983); PhD in Structural Geology and Petrology (University of Milano, 1989); Post-Doc at ENS-Lyon (1990-1991), and UniMi (1991-1992). Permanent positions at UniMi: Researcher (1993-2001); Associate Professor (2001-2006) & Full Professor (from 2006) in Structural Geology. Invited first class professor at Universitè Claude Bernard-Lyon 1 (2000). Member of department research evaluation committee (2000-2007); scientific director of the Earth Sciences library (2006-2016); member of the university commission for libraries (2009-2016). Chair of the didactic council of Earth Sciences (UniMi, 2014-2017); “AQ” referent for the bachelor and master degree courses in Earth Sciences (2019-2021); Coordinator of the Earth Sciences Program of UniMi (since 01/10/2021). Coordinator of Tectonic Italian Group (2010-2013). Research acitivity oriented to the understanding of tectonic mechanisms of thickening and thinning of the continental crust in convergent and divergent margins, by investigating the inter-related tectono-metamorphic litospheric processes: 1) translational deformation of tectonic units, 2) their granular scale deformation, 3) chemical reequilibration reactions of rock forming minerals. Analysis of tectonic structures is supported by the knowledge of petrogenetic environments to identify the geodynamic environments of formation of tectono-metamorphic units. Structural analysis is integrated with the comparison of natural data with predictions of thermomechanical models. Research results are synthesised in 132 publications (20 geological maps) in peer-review journals (> ¾ indexed). H-idx: 29 (Scopus), 27 (WoS), 35 (Scholar), 37 (ResearchGate). Citations: 2261 (Scopus), 1988 (WoS), 3447 (Scholar), 3901 (ResearchGate). ASN thresholds – 2014-2024: 39 indexed publications; 2009-2024: H-idx > 20 and number of citations> 1000.
