ROBERTO DOMINIQUE MARIE

Born in Marseille on July 9th 1961.
Under the guidance of prof. Alper of the University of Ottawa, she received the Bachelor with specialization (1984) and the Ph.D. (1989) in Chemistry, earning 24 scientific awards and the gold medal of the General Governor of Canada. In 1987 she collaborated with prof. Chiusoli and since 1989 she collaborates with prof. Ugo at the University of Milan, where, since 2006, she is Full Professor for General and Inorganic Chemistry. She is Member of the Center of Excellence CIMAINA since 2003. Member of the Directive Council of INSTM (2016-2024).
Her research interests are in the following areas:
(1) Synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, catalyzed by metal complexes.
(2) Surface organometallic chemistry. For her work she received the "Flavio Bonati" award (1996) and the “Federchimica-per un futuro intelligente” award (1998), "GICO senior" award (2022).
(3) Design and preparation of coordination compounds with second order non-linear optical (NLO) properties. Her studies allowed the understanding of the electronic factors that tune the increase of the NLO response in nitrogen donor ligands upon coordination to a metal center. She put in evidence the role of f electrons in modulating the NLO properties of lanthanide complexes and showed how cyclometallation can lead to a large NLO response. She studies the nanoorganization of molecular compounds to give new nanostructured hybrid materials with exalted NLO properties. Besides, she directs a laboratory unique in Italy and among the best in the world for second order NLO measurements both in solution and in the solid state.
(4) Design and preparation of coordination compounds for luminescent devices and solar cells.
National or local coordinator of projects on optoelectronics funded by Fondazione Cariplo (2007 and 2010) or MIUR (PRIN 2008). Italian coordinator of France-Italy projects PICS-CNRS 2016 e GALILEO 2015. She is author of 3 patents, 169 publications, and 4 book's chapters.
