Synthesis of the Elusive bis(4-carboxyphenylimino)acenaphthene Ligand and of its Palladium Dichloride Complex

The title bis-imine appears to be ideally suited to be employed in the preparation of MOFs and other advanced materials, but its synthesis has not been reported in the literature. The solution to the problems that likely originated this and the crystal structure of a palladium complex are reported.
