L’unité de traduction : une reflexion pédagogique

What does translation unit mean? Such a question has been at the centre of translation studies since their origins in the second half of the XXthcentury. The answers have already been numerous, having evolved together with the definition of translation as an inter-linguistic and intercultural process. In the present article, we will refer to translation studies' major contributions about translation unit. Our objective is to identify its main defining characteristics in order to develop a pedagogical analysis on this notion. Our analysis is based on some of the results obtained in the framework of our PhD didactic experimentation. We will conclude on the perspectives concerning the analysis of translation units based on corpora.
