Abstract:
The chapter examines the rise of hybrid forms of organising, with a focus on transnational alliances representing solo self-employed (SSE) and freelance workers. Case studies include the European Forum of Independent Professionals (EFIP), the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), and various networks of food-delivery platform workers. It highlights the internal diversity within these alliances, as well as the evolving strategies and challenges faced by SSE worker coalitions, emphasising their struggle for collective representation and social protection at both European and global levels. The role of cooperatives, particularly the European Confederation of Industrial and Service Cooperatives (CECOP), and the International Labour Organization, is also considered.
