5G Connected REplicable Services for Connected cAmpus (23-IT-DIG-5G-CRESCA)

Progetto
5G technology has the potential to revolutionise various sectors, particularly in public services where its adoption remains limited. When fully utilised, 5G can significantly improve economic and social outcomes, especially in critical areas like healthcare and education. These sectors face increasing pressures such as reduced funding, aging populations, and growing demand for remote services. By enhancing connectivity and enabling faster, more reliable communication, 5G can drive innovative solutions like telemedicine and remote learning, strengthening the resilience of these essential services. The action aims to implement a 5G Hybrid Mobile Private Network (MPN) to support transformative changes in education, healthcare, industry, and service provision. It will develop eight innovative use cases grouped into two clusters: 1. Enhanced Campus Education i. Remote music training implementing 5G solutions for live jam sessions and training enabled by increased data transmission rate, lower latency, and integrated innovative tolls with spatial audio solutions for advanced and remote connection during music training activities ii. Augmented learning through AR platforms, for the adoption of learning platforms based on Augmented Reality (AR) and modelling tools in the scientific domains of Computer Science and Engineering, Architecture, and Chemistry, and with the goal of expanding the subjects and courses to be involved iii. 5G holographic surgical simulation to promote the development, deployment, and integration of mixed reality enhanced solutions into medicine and surgery 2. Enhanced Campus Services i. Video-streaming of events using 360° cameras, ii. Connectivity on demand for fair events and exhibitions such as OpenDays and CareerDays, iii. 5G connected digital industry based on collaborative robotics and smart systems for Industry 4.0, iv. Wireless cameras for monitoring areas within the campus, v. feedback-based sport and education, through the adoption of t-shirts equipped with sensors to measure parameters during sport, education activities, presentations, and events. To address challenges in indoor coverage, quality support, and edge computing, the project will deploy a 5G Hybrid MPN infrastructure, ensuring a large-scale network with high capacity, flexibility, low latency, and secure control. This infrastructure will support various performance and data consumption requirements across the diverse use cases. The action will also deliver a proof of concept for each use case, focusing on testing and real-world application to evaluate the tangible impact of these innovative technologies. The project will drive significant advancements in education, healthcare, industry, and societal well-being. The focus on immersive technologies, mixed reality, and physiological sensors will lead to enhanced education and services within the project sites. By supporting inclusivity, security, and digital transformation, the project aligns with broader EU and Italian goals. Furthermore, the project's approach offers strong potential for replicability and scaling, enabling positive, long-lasting changes across multiple domains, enhancing overall digital progress.
