Description

TRAINING
•In 1987 Laurea cum laude in Biology, University of Milan.
•From 1989 to 1991 Research Fellowships at the Neurological Institute “C.Besta” of Milan in the Laboratory of Experimental Neurophysiology. Research activities were mainly focused on neuroanatomical studies regarding some neurotransmitter systems and the developmental mechanisms necessary for arrangement of nervous structures and of differentiated synaptic circuitry using rat brain as experimental model.
•From 1992 to 2021 Assistant Professor in Human Anatomy (BIOS-12/4, ex BIO16) at the University of Milan.
From 2022 Associate Professor in Human Anatomy (BIOS-12/4, ex BIO16) at the University of Milan.
TEACHING
•Since 1995 supervisor of several theses for master’s and bachelor’s degree in ‘Biological Sciences’ and master’s degree in ‘Biodiversity and Biological Evolution’, ‘Applied Biomedical Biology’ and ‘Molecular Biology oh The Cell’.
•In 1994 and 2003 suspending of research activities: maternity leaves.
•1999-2007: temporary teacher (Human Anatomy) at the University of Milan-Bicocca.
•2011-present: different practical courses for high school teachers and students.
•2004-2016: course of “Functional human biology” of the second level degree course “Biodiversity and Biological Evolution” at the University of Milan.
•2009-present: course of ‘Neuroanatomy’ of the practical lab for the bachelor degree course ‘Biological Sciences’.
•2015-2019: course of “Human Anatomy and Neuroanatomy” of the master degree course “Biology applied to Research in Biomedicine’ at the University of Milan.
•2018-present course of ‘Human Anatomy’ of the bachelor degree course ‘Biological Sciences’ at the University of Milan.
•From 2019 course of ‘Human and Experimental Neuroanatomy’ of the master degree course “Biology applied to Research in Biomedicine’ at the University of Milan.
From 2025 course of ‘Human Biology: morphofunctional bases’ of the master degree course “Biodiversity and Biological Evolution” at the University of Milan.
RESEARCH
Morphological, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural analysis of the rodent central nervous system and bioptic and autoptic human brain samples.
In 2006 holder of national funding (PRIN 2005 - prot. 2005053838_002) and in 2012-2016 collaborator of a TELETHON project (2012- GGP12147) on the role of nicotinic receptors in neuropathologies.
•Collaborations: with IFOM (Milan), with the Neurological Institute “C.Besta” of Milan, with the University of Milan-Bicocca. Since 2004 studies focused again on the central cholinergic system collaborating with the Laboratory of Electrophysiology of the University of Milan-Bicocca. Aim of the project was the characterization by means of different approaches (morphological, electrophysiological and molecular) of the nicotinic receptor, which shows several mutations associated to an autosomal dominant form of frontal lobe nocturnal epilepsy. Another collaboration aimed at characterizing the parkin knock out mice and on localizing alfa-synuclein in murine and human central nervous system. Recent ongoing collaborations are devoted to the analyses of synapses and glial network in human autoptic brain.
•Technical skills: preparation of biological samples for electron microscopy and histology; neuroanatomical microscopical and ultrastructural analysis of rodent and human brain sections; light, confocal and electron microscopy; image quantitative analysis.
