CASALI PAOLO GIOVANNI

Paolo Giovanni Casali is Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Milan and Director of the Medical Oncology Unit 2 (focusing on adult mesenchymal tumours and rare cancer networking) at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori, Milan, Italy. He serves as Secretary of the Ethics Committee 4 of the Lombardia Regione. He coordinates the Sarcoma domain of the European Reference Network on Rare Adult Solid Cancers (EURACAN). He coordinates the Rare Cancers Working Group of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), after coordinating Rare Cancers Europe from its foundation in 2008, and being a member of the Executive Board of the society from 2005 to 2019. His clinical and research activities focus on sarcomas, mainly adult soft tissue sarcomas and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). He served as the Secretary of the Italian Sarcoma Group between 2002 and 2021, now being a member of its Technical-Scientific Committee, and is a member of the Soft Tissue & Bone Sarcoma Group of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). He is a member of the ESMO Sarcoma Faculty. In the area of rare cancers, he coordinated the Joint Action on Rare Cancers (JARC), carried out within the framework of the Third Health Programme of the European Union (EU) between 2016 and 2019, and chairs the Sarcoma domain of EURACAN, the European Reference Network on rare adult solid cancers. Currently, he coordinates the Joint Action on Networks of Expertise of the EU. He is (co)author of more than 350 papers in peer-reviewed medical journals.
