PODESTA' ALESSANDRO MARIO GIACOMO

Alessandro Podestà is associate professor at the Department of Physics of the University of Milano, where he has got the MS in Physics in 1998 and the PhD in Materials Science in 2002. His main research interest is the characterization of physical and chemical properties of interfaces at the nanometer scale using scanning probe techniques based on Atomic Force Microscopy. In particular, he studies the interfacial properties of thin nanostructured films (wettability, surface charge, friction, nanomechanics..); the interaction of biological entities DNA, DNA-protein complexes, and cells with relevant biocompatible (nanostructured) surfaces; mechanics of cells, tissues and extracellular matrices. He has been scientist in charge of the atomic force microscopy group of the Molecular Beam and Nanocrystalline Materials Lab and of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Nanostructured Materials and Interfaces (CIMAINA) of the University of Milano until 2023; from 2023 he is in charge of the scanning probe microscopy lab at the Dept. of Physics of the University of Milano. He works in an interdisciplinary research environment, collaborating with physicists, biologists, chemists, engineers. He is author of more than 85 publications on peer-reviewed international journals. H-index 34 (Scopus, active since 1999). Total citations > 3000.
