Intrecciare parole nelle pratiche di cura: il contributo della medicina narrativa

In the last decades, a narrative approach to medicine has been developed, which values the patients’ illness narrative as an expression of their lived experience. Narrative medicine is connected to both practitioners’ and patients’ autobiographical practices. These practices can help patients make meaning of their experience, through a coherent narrative. Healthcare professionals’ writings are helpful to learn more about their patients, and themselves. From a reciprocal cross reading of patients’ and practitioners’ reflective writings, an “interweaving of stories” can emerge, which can lead to a better understanding of their different points of view, helping health organizations to improve the quality of care.
