Abstract:
Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (rAAA) is a lethal condition that requires swift restoration of aortic integrity to prevent mortality. Open aortic repair (OAR) is an established treatment, but despite advances in surgical technique and postoperative care, the associated morbidity and mortality remains high. Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has emerged as a technique for elective AAA and rAAA repair. Many retrospective studies have reported improvements in the construction of methods for deployment of grafts, described the implementation of protocols for management and repair of rAAA, and identified various postoperative complications associated with EVAR compared to OAR. A careful review of the literature was performed to accurately describe select postoperative complications associated with EVAR for rAAA, including mortality, and to determine rates of occurrence.
