The Etruscans were masters in hydraulics, and built very complex and advanced hydraulic systems in their cities. Water was sacred and was considered a means of communication between man and the gods. For this reason rivers, lakes and water springs were often worshipped and hydraulic structures such as waterwells and tanks can be found in the vicinity of Etruscan shrines.
