"Un vagabondaggio mentale”. Sentieri narrativi in Hilarotragoedia e Nuovo commento di Giorgio Manganelli

The main purpose of this essay is to reconsider the problematic issue of narrativity in Giorgio Manganelli's earliest fictional works: Hilarotragoedia and Nuovo commento. The first paragraph debates the classic definition of Manganelli as an antinarrative writer and reexamines the main positions of the author against the novel and around the concept of narration in general. The second paragraph provides an interpretation of Manganelli's fictional treatises through Harald Weinrich's theory as outlined in Tempus. Besprochene und erzählte Welt. The last paragraph tries to draw some conclusions from the application of Weinrich's theory to this context and focuses on Manganelli's dynamic use of ecphrasis as a hidden strategy of narration.
