Abstract:
The present paper is devoted to an analysis of the ‘intellectual laws of language’ which play a central role in the Mi- chel Bréal’s semantics. It shows that the ‘intellectual laws of language’ are both historical and general laws. The paper also situates Bréal’s semantics between grammaire générale and grammaire comparée.
