Breve storia dei diritti umani

Based on the idea that human rights are a historical and western concept, the book aims to provide a synthetic history of human rights and women’s rights taking into account the confluence of facts, norms and theory. After a brief overview of the principal notions in the language of rights, the book begins to consider the main passages of that history: jura et libertates and the appearance of the idea of natural rights in juridical doctrine and political theories of the 16th and 17th centuries; the enlightenment debate and the American and French declarations of rights; the passage from natural rights to legal rights in the 19th century in the context of political liberalism and legal positivism; the origins and the formalization of socio-economic rights; finally the beginning of the internationalization process and the emerging issue of the universalizability of human and women’s rights.
