Solidarity and Brotherhood in Medieval Italian Confraternities : a Way of Inclusion or Exclusion?

Aim of the paper is to discuss whether medieval confraternities were inclusive communities or exclusive institutions, exploring how the relationships between the different social groups that revolved around these groups changed on the threshold from the Middle Ages to the early modern period.
