abstract:
In Ps. Aristot. ΠΕΡΙ ΦΩΝΗΣ 6, 20 and 47, we read a definition concerning the perception of voice pitch from long distances that seems to contradict the theory of sound behavior that had been developed within the Peripatos (and, theoretically, modern acoustic theories as well). The aim of the contribution is to revise the problems through analytical tools offered by modern acoustics, psychoacoustics and – most of all – the study of the pitch perception.
