Abstract:
The missing link: Ab initio calculations carried out on a series of terminally blocked polyalanines AcAla nNH 2 provide a detailed picture on stabilities of peptide secondary structures. Among them is the polyproline II helical structure (see picture), found ubiquitously in polyalanine-rich peptides, whose stability is still poorly understood theoretically. Copyright
