PROBLEMATICHE RELAZIONALI E PSICOSESSUALI IN DONNE CON EPILESSIA

Problems related to personal, and psico-sexual development in 100 women with epilepsy, treated with AED, aged 20-40, were studied through a detailed questionnaire. The questionnaire was submitted to 100 out-patients while attending the S. Paolo Hospital in Milan for routine controls. The items concern sociocultural variables, gynecologic and obstetric anamnesis, contraceptive choices, psicosexual level, sexual anamnesis and epileptic profile. The results suggest that 45% of women have an high-school and/or university degree, but only 28% have an adequate employment. 49% are single: 42% have intercourses without reliable contraception and 19% have had voluntary abortion; the prevalent behaviour is towards a stable relationship. These data are discussed in the text but confirm that women with epilepsy are an high-risk reproductive group and need more detailed gynecologic counselling since younger age.
