Infezioni congenite da citomegalovirus e malformazioni dello sviluppo corticale

In our series of 70 patients with Malformation of Cortical Development (MCD), detected by MRI, 3 showed a Congenital Cytomegalovirus Infection at birth. We have explored the possibility of a CCI as an etiologic agent in 8 patients with MCD of unknown cause. We used a previously set-up method that is based on the search of CMV DNA in dried blood spots on Guthrie cards. A CCI was diagnosed in 4 out 8 cases.
