In N Italy, the loess deposits are recorded all along the Alps and Apennine fringes, on the karstic plateaus in the Pre-Alps, on paleosurfaces within the Apennine range, in the Dalmatian Achipelago, and along Marche coast. Generally the loess sheets lie on stable surfaces, and therefore they have been heavily affected by soil forming processes, which strongly changed their original textural characteristics.
