Metabolic aspects in bovine preovulatory and in vitro matured oocytes: a cytochemical approach

Studies conducted with the mouse and, to a lesser extent, the rabbit provide the vast majoruty of the existing informations on the metabolic enzymes of the mammalina ovum. In sharp contrast such data are almost non existent for domestic animal ova. In the present preliminary study we used a cytochemical quantitative assay to measure succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities in preovulatory oocytes collected from ovaries of non pregnant cows at the local abbatoir.
