Sec-BuOH is used as internal std. Both methods are simple, rapid, and precise. Because of the extremely low background noise assocd. with headspace sampling, very small amts. of volatile compds. other than EtOH can also be detected. The slope of the concn.-response plot did not vary significantly between solns. of EtOH in H2O and blood; the slope of the plot was slightly steeper with the automatic than with the manual method.
