Alterazioni metaboliche nel periparto in bovine di razza frisona in allevamento biologico

Serum biochemical profile was evaluated in Friesian dairy cows from an organic farm from four weeks prepartum until four weeks postpartum and compared with cows from intensive husbandry. The changes of -OH butyrate and NEFA levels observed in the organic farm were indicative of lipomobilisation and sublinical ketosis, suggesting an energy deficiency during the first month of lactation. Calcium and Phosphate homeostasis was recovered later than in the intensive farm. These results confirm that nutrition levels of the organic farm can not deal with the need of animal selected for high milk yield, and less producing breeds should be employed to ensure a good welfare.
