Pacifist Clauses, Euro-Atlantic Integration Clauses and Neutrality in the Constitutions of the Former Soviet Republics of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova

This chapter aims to investigate ‘foreign policy clauses’ in the constitutions of the countries of the former Soviet space, focusing in particular on the cases of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. Reference is made to constitutional provisions, endowed with an external dimension, that put precise constraints on State institutions in foreign policy decisions, among which it is possible to include renunciation of war
and the peaceful resolution of international controversies (the so-called ‘pacifist clauses’), international cooperation clauses, Euro-Atlantic integration clauses and neutrality clauses, which can be combined in different ways.
