Diagnostic observations on the sow urinary tract infections (UTI) = Osservazioni diagnostiche sulle infezioni urinarie (UTI) della scrofa

The urinary infections of sows (UTI) still represent a controversial matter of study. Some authors consider this problem poorly disturbing the farm profitability while many European experts, especially in France, attribute to UTI a substantial impact on the productivity of the pig production. Therefore a reliable diagnostic protocol has been defined to establish the real incidence of the problem in the Italian swine system and to understand the UTI interference on the breeding productivity. This paper referred to a study performed during the years 2009-2010, and absolutely represents the first investigation on UTI in Italy. The available data indicate that, likewise in other geographical areas, the urinary infections are a present and they are potentially interfering on the productivity of sows.
