Abstract:
Animals appear frequently in Shevchenko's poetry. Their significance and function has rarely been examined. This is a tentative to initiate such an analysis. The results show that Shevchenko almost always refers to folkish or religious tradition when mentioning owls and dogs as poetic ans symbolic figures.
