Abstract:
We study in detail properties of Hilbert
modular varieties of low dimension in positive characteristic~$p$;
in particular, the local and global properties of certain
stratifications. To carry out this investigation we develop some
new tools in the theory of displays, intersection theory on a
singular surface and Hecke correspondences at~$p$.
