Concentrazioni plasmatiche di T3 e T4 in puledri neonati sani e patologici

The aim of this study was to evaluate the T3 and T4 profiles in spontaneous, induced and pathologic newborn foals during the first 2 weeks of age. In healthy foals (6 pontaneous and 5 induced), blood samples were collected at birth, 12 h, daily from d 1 to 7, at between d 8 and 10, and between d 11and 14. Pathologic foals (n=18) were sampled at admission and every day until discharge/death. Plasma was analyzed by RIA. All foals showed decreasing T3 and T4 patterns, with lower plasma levels in pathologic foals. Significant differences were found for both hormones in spontaneous and induced foals between the first 12 hours compared to later samples. Significant differences between healthy and diseased foals were detectable until d 6 after birth for T3 and within the first 12 hours for T4.
