This article concerns Elena Granaglia’s idea that there is a duty to work. I suggest that such duty follows from an idea of reciprocity and is thus conditional on the realization of equality of opportunity. Because equality of opportunity is not realized here and now, there are reasonable doubts about the existence of such a duty in contemporary societies.
