Alcune osservazioni sull'articolazione del sistema insediativo tarquiniese dall'età protostorica al periodo arcaico

This paper is based on the ten year time topographic research of the CRC 'Tarquinia Project' , directed by G. Bagnasco Gianni. Important results on the fortifications and on the perimeter ofthe city (PRIN 2008 'Mura Tarquiniesi ') were acquired and the Archaeological Map of the Civita di Tarquinia was created. Maps, historical documentation and thematic representations of the ancient town and its territory from the sixteenth century to date were analysed in a GIS system. This includes a pioneering LiDAR survey done in 2010 for this purpose. The results allow to focus again on the development of the Tarquinian settlement system, since its most ancient phases. Interpretative models proposed over time will be illustrated, taking into account the data obtained from CRC 'Tarquinia Project'. New points of view on the perception that the ancients ha d of their landscape and on the use of the territory can be proposed, shading further light on the social, religious and political factors at the root ofthe settlement and its forms.
