Genere, Spazione e Rigenerazione urbana: Riflessioni di genere sullo spazio urbano = Gender, Space and Urban Regeneration. Reflections on Gender and Urban Space

The “spatial turn" has emphasized the social function of space, showing how the configuration of spaces is non-neutral. In this frame, space is strongly related with questions of justice both in terms of segregation and integration. This paper provides an analysis of this relation, focusing on the change of paradigm in urban planning. It starts by observing the non-coincidence between the person who lives in the city and the one who it is designed for. This highlights the limits of a neutral approach, emphasizing the fundamental role played by the new integrated paradigm in urban planning. Then, through a brief analysis of the urban regeneration, this paper addresses some issues related with the (mis)application of gender mainstreaming.
