"Noi non facciamo del partito un feticcio" : Carlo Rosselli fra il PSU e il PSLI

As an emotional and political response to Matteotti’s assassination, Carlo Rosselli joined the PSU in September 1925, formally sealing a rapprochement with reformist socialism that had begun a few years earlier with the publication of a series of articles in “Critica Sociale”. However, his militancy in the PSU turned out to be critical, as he decisively challenged the “Aventine” choice and the relative timidity in confronting the Mussolini regime only through legal measures. The dissolution of the PSU by the Fascist authorities gave birth to the PSLI; Rosselli took part as a protago- nist in the founding congress of the new party, without, however, being able to develop his programs, since this party too was soon repressed by the government.
