Cusanus und das Gelehrtenideal der Humanisten : Die Interpretation von Eugenio Garin im Lichte ihrer Vor- und Nachgeschichte

This paper reconstructs the historiographical representation of Cusanus drawn by the Italian historian of philosophy Eugenio Garin († 2004), taking into account the latter’s university and political context and his philosophical sources. Nicholas of Cusa’s thinking is here used as the key to interpreting Garin’s intellectual project in comparison to Giovanni Gentile’s and Ernst Cassirer’s historiography. Furthermore, the paper analyses Garin’s understanding of Cusanus’ philosophy and philosophical character with regard to the most recent research studies.
