Abstract:
Legal rules in ancient Greece show almost no interest in mothers and childhood, and accordingly in the relationship between mothers and sons. There are however some exceptions that are worth considering, and that deal with Athens, on the one hand, and with the Doric city of Gortyn, on the other.
