Abstract:
Accordingly to Milan Kundera, the repetition of a word could have a semantic or a melodic function. It is for this reason that a translator must always reproduce in the final text the repetitions present in the original text. Our professional experience has nevertheless shown that a translator is sometimes unable to replicate a repetition as facing lexical, grammatical or stylistic problems.
Beginning from 10 extracts taken from Apprendre à finir, Laurent Mauvignier's second novel, where repetition plays an essential role, we tried to produce concrete examples of lexical, grammatical or stylistic conflicts, comparing both the French and the Italian codes
