Pathways to carbonic fluids and carbonatitic liquids in subduction zones: experimental and thermodynamic modeling

Project
The purpose of this work is to unravel the behavior of C-O-H mixed fluids and carbonatitic liquids as media for transporting carbon in cycling processes of the upper mantle. The project is based on four major lines of action: 1) the experimental reconstruction of C-O-H fluid composition and speciation in the presence of silicates; 2) the determination of the liquidus surface for ternary Ca, Mg, Fe carbonates and the effect of H2O; 3) the interconnectivity of hydrous carbonatitic liquids in the mantle. 4) Synthesis and outreach activities, chasing carbon from the laboratory to the field on the Alps
