Partecipazione italiana alla Fase A della missione LiteBIRD

Project
La ricerca concerne il contributo allo studio di fattibilità (“Fase A”) della missione LiteBIRD, dedicata alla misura di alta precisione della polarizzazione del fondo cosmico di microonde (CMB) per sondare la presenza di onde gravitazionali primordiali nelle prime frazioni di secondo dopo il Big Bang. Il progetto è stato recentemente approvato dalla JAXA (agenzia spaziale Giapponese) e vede la collaborazione di ASI, CNES e altre agenzie spaziali, nonché la partecipazione scientifica di numerosi gruppi di ricerca in Europa e negli USA. Le attività previste nel nostro dipartimento durante la fase A (finanziata dall’ASI, riguardano tre settori fondamentali per lo sviluppo e l’ottimizzazione del design del satellite: (a) calibrazione del sottosistema ottico di MHFT (responsabile di Work Package (WP): Cristian Franceschet); (b) calibrazione in-flight e Instrument Model (responsabile di WP: Maurizio Tomasi); (c) simulazione di Level S (responsabile di WP: Davide Maino). La parte sperimentale delle attività utilizzerà in parte le camere anecoiche e le apparecchiature RF già installate presso il Laboratorio di Microonde del dipartimento, che contribuiscono in modo rilevante al cofinanziamento del progetto.
