Multicomponent Analysis of phYsical frailty BiomarkErs: focus on mitochondrial health

Project
La sindrome da fragilità dell'anziano, caratterizzata da vulnerabilità agli eventi stressanti, rapido declino funzionale, aumentata ospedalizzazione e elevato tasso di mortalità, è un serio problema di salute pubblica. Elemento cardine della sindrome è la sarcopenia, ossia la perdita di massa e funzione muscolare, accompagnata da ridotta efficienza nella bioenergetica mitocondriale. Il progetto MAYBE si propone di definire i criteri diagnostici della sindrome, individuare i meccanismi molecolari alla base del deficit bioenergetico, mettere a punto efficaci strategie terapeutiche. In particolare si effettueranno studi sia in ambito preclinico che clinico utili a predisporre uno strumento diagnostico multidimensionale per l’identificazione dei soggetti a rischio e per valutare l’efficacia degli interventi terapeutici (attività fisica e supplementazione dietetica con particolari formulazioni di aminoacidi).
