Milano e il suo territorio. Le collezioni scientifiche dell'Università degli Studi di Milano in Palazzo Brera: uno studio storico-scientifico e storico-artistico

This project of research has the aim to investigate the scientific instrument collections of historical value of the Brera Astronomical Museum-Botanical Garden of the Università degli Studi di Milano, from the point of view of both History of Science and History of Art. A first inventory will lead us to a typological classification of the instruments, which will be used to select the most significant categories. The historical-scientific analysis will lead to the production of a museum catalogue, implementable on-line. The historical-artistic analysis will find out and critically analyse the iconographic evolution of the selected instruments. The researches, based on an active confrontation and a continuous integration of the results of the historical-scientific and historical-artistic analyses, will make use of documents kept in archives, libraries, and museums, with a particular attention to the documental heritage of the Brera National Library.
