The aim of this research project is to discover and to catalogue systematically all the synagogues and the Jewish graveyards of the whole Lombard territory. This goal has never been done until now, except some publications about some areas of Lombardy.
This research develops across two main streams: 1) the localization of the place of worship that must be listed 2) and their historical-juridical contextualization, both studied to exploit – by a cultural and also tourist point of view – the religious places analyzed and catalogued.
As well as the publication of an annotated cataloguing of the synagogues and the Jewish graveyards on the territory, also enriched by a wide equipment of photographic pictures and by a translation from Hebrew into Italian of the find tombstone inscriptions, this project takes into account the publication of studies concerning particular aspects of the history and of the juridical state about the places analyzed, written by each single members of the team.
