Main ongoing research projects
▪ Study of the regenerative and immunomodulatory potential of Mesenchymal stem/stromal Cells (MSCs) deriving from different sources (such as subcutaneous adipose tissue, bone marrow and oral tissues) in appropriate preclinical models.
▪ Characterization of MSC secretome, containing both soluble factors and extracellular vesicles, using advanced analytical techniques and -omics approaches (proteomics, lipidomics and metabolomics).
▪ Evaluation of the therapeutic potential of MSC secretome in 2D/3D in vitro, ex vivo and in preclinical models of pathologies affecting the musculoskeletal system, in the perspective of its future clinical use as an Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP).
▪ Testing of the functionality and biocompatibility of innovative biomaterials with possible clinical applications in orthopaedics and dentistry. Identification of genetic and genomic alterations of rare bone tumors such as undifferentiated high-grade pleomorphic sarcoma of bone (UPSb), undifferentiated small round cell sarcomas (USRCSs), Central Giant Cell Granuloma (GCGC) and Adamantinoma, through next generation sequencing (NGS).
