abstract:
Treatment of implants migrated in maxillary sinus AIMOFSTUDY. To present a retrospective analysis of para- nasal sinuses complications following displacement of oral implants in the maxillary sinus and to propose rational surgical protocols of treatment according to type of complication.
MATERIALSANDMETHODS. 27 patients were referred for the treatment of postoperative complications involving the para-
nasal sinuses consequent to displacement of oral implants in the maxillary sinuses. According to type of complication
(implant displacement only, implant displacement with or without reactive sinusitis and/or with or without associated
oro-antral communications), patients were treated with the following surgical modalities: 1) functional endoscopic si-
nus surgery (FESS); 2) intraoral approach to the sinus; 3) FESS in association with intraoral approach.
RESULTS. Twenty-six out of 27 patients recovered comple-tely after surgery, while only one patient underwent re-in-
tervention with FESS and intraoral approach due to persi-stence of maxillary sinusitis.
CONCLUSION. These results demonstrated that a rational choice among different surgical protocols for the treat-
ment of complications involving the paranasal sinuses following displacement of implants in the maxillary sinuses
may lead to very reliable results.
