abstract:
Developed between 1730 and 1750 and consolidated later in the century, the «Milanese» symphony can be considered as a musical expression of the new Austrian Lombardy, and at the same time a phenomenon of European significance. The role of the «Milanese» symphony in social life of eighteenth-century Lombardy emerges from a (re)construction that uses archival documents, contemporary testimonies, and a study of sources and musical style to establish links to cultural, political, social and economic contexts.
