abstract:
The epidermal homeostatic mechanisms are the key to the scientific and rational interpretation of epidermal pathology. Bullough, who discovered epidermal chalone, made an essential contribution to this. There are two kinds of chalones inhibiting epidermal cell proliferation: G1 and G2 chalone. They are proteins or glycoproteins produced by epidermal cells. Their action is strengthened by adrenaline and glycocorticoids which would act by means of reducing the dermal cell production of epidermal chalone inhibitor. This provides interesting prospects in tumoral pathology.
