In this paper Giovan Giacomo Ricci's biography is examined with first-hand archival sources, and it is more keenly recognized to him the merit of having early identified the nodes of Marino’s primacy within the Italian literary culture of the early XVIIth century. This is accomplished in most of his works, which can be positioned, as said, between the theatrical script and the ‘ragguaglio di Parnaso’, in which Marino appears as a prominent, unchallenged if not structural figure. The evolution of the Marino-character in the course of the various works by Ricci (from the 'Maritaggio delle Muse', 1625, to the 'Diporti di Parnaso', 1635) outlines a real maturation of the intellectual biography of the revered Neapolitan writer.
