The use of 3D CAD software in the production of medical devices is widely spread in recent years.
Diagnostic software from those for surgical planning modelling those crowns and bridges to those for orthodontics, the use of horizontal systems can create customized protocols work without the constraint of vertical software settings, allowing further checks on the data obtained. An example of this approach is found in the production of digital VTO, where the interface between CT, digital model and machine tool production of the device used during surgery. The scans with Cone Beam Volumetric Imaging eliminate errors linear projection, including errors due to distortion and magnification, which instead hit the two-dimensional images. For this reason, the volumetric tomography has become the most commonly used for orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. In fact, the images obtained with the CB 3D technology is so effective and accurate in reconstructing the structure of maxillofacial orthodontic patients that they have virtually eliminated the need to follow the different phases of orthodontic treatment and long tradition. Once acquired, the image can be used to create "virtual models" that allow the orthodontist to see three-dimensional electronically without having to make casts or wax models. This allows specialists to save time and eliminates the need to create plaster models.
