Progetto PSR (2025) Linea 8-Sottomisura B- Dott. Marco FILIPPI (Tutor: Prof. Farina Federico) - Missione a Ginevra
Progetto The research visit I intend to carry out at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Geneva is conceived with a strong focus on scientific training, knowledge transfer, and professional growth. My primary objective is to acquire hands- on experience in high-precision U-Pb geochronology using Chemical Abrasion Isotope Dilution Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (CA-ID-TIMS) on zircon, under the expert guidance of Dr. Maria Ovtcharova and the isotope geochemistry group at the University of Geneva. The purpose of this mission is twofold: on one hand, to deepen my understanding of the analytical and interpretative techniques involved in zircon U-Pb CA-ID-TIMS dating applied to metamorphic rocks; and on the other hand, to establish a mentoring relationship that enhances my long-term scientific autonomy. This experience will allow me to directly engage in laboratory work, including sample selection, chemical preparation, mass spectrometry analysis, data reduction, and interpretation, following best practices developed by a world- leading research group. The mobility period will provide me with the opportunity to learn in a high-level academic environment and to benefit from continuous supervision and personalized mentoring. Through guided training sessions and active participation in the lab activities, I aim to develop solid technical skills and a critical approach to the use of high-precision petrochronological data. I also hope to gain insights into how to transfer this methodology to my home institution in the future, eventually contributing to building local analytical capacity. Beyond the analytical component, this mission is an opportunity to grow as an independent researcher through regular scientific dialogue, constructive feedback, and immersion in a collaborative and internationally oriented setting
